Earlier this year, March 17th 2009 to be precise, a free film event took place at the Rich Mix arts centre in east London. If you regularly travel on the London Underground on a Thursday you may be familiar with the Shortlist magazine and it’s array of wild and wonderful competitions. It so happened that in the run up to St. Patrick’s Day, the Jameson Cult Film Club was giving out tickets to two simultaneous film screenings. You would think given the date that the films on offer would have something to do with Ireland or Irishness but no, they were showing the zombie films Shaun of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead. A strange decision some may say. Strange also was the choice of the completely non-Irish music in the bar before the screenings. It was as if the patron saint’s only representation was to be found in liquid form behind the bar. However the films were free as were a handful of whiskey cocktails so not only was the event well attended but no one seemed at all put out by the lack of patriotism on show.
Jameson Cult Film Club Offerings for Halloween
Fastforward to October and the Jameson Cult Film Club has made a reappearance. At least now it’s the right time of year for a zombie film or two so how wonderful it is that they planned a short series of films over the Halloween period and yet again, the screenings and drinks will be on the house.
