Many people want to work in aviation. A huge number want to be airline pilots, but there are many other jobs related to flying, such as air traffic controllers or aerospace engineers. One which is often dismissed is the job of cabin crew. In the early days of flight, it was primarily a job for young women before they married, and they were known as air stewardesses or air hostesses. But many men now apply for the interesting and challenging career of the modern-day flight attendant. So what does it involve?

The Work of a Flight Attendant

Many people think that flight attendants are merely glorified waiters or waitresses who just serve food and drink to the passengers. But the main role of cabin crew is the safety of everyone on the flight. If safety was not important, there would be no flight attendants, and they have an extremely important role to play.

Cabin crew go through a very intensive training regime for at least six weeks, and this covers all possible in-flight emergencies as well as other training. Recently, one flight attendant even helped the pilot to land the plane when the First Officer was taken ill.
